Christopher Devon Lee III was 17 when he was fatally shot in Selma, Alabama, on the evening of July 3, 2017. A standout basketball player at Ellwood Christian Academy, Christopher was born May 25, 2000, and was remembered by family and the community as an outstanding and funny young man whose potential was cut short by gun violence.

The investigation into his death resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old; that juvenile made a first court appearance in the days after the shooting on charges related to Christopher’s killing. The case drew widespread grief and calls for justice in Selma.
