Kendarrius Dewayne Martin was 19 when he was shot at Wiregrass Park and Recreation Center on Sixth Avenue in Dothan, Alabama, on the evening of Tuesday, May 23, 2017. He was transported to Southeast Alabama Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds and died of his injuries. Kendarrius, known as K.D., had just celebrated graduating from Dothan High School and held a football scholarship to Minnesota West Community College; teammates and his coach remembered him as a standout athlete and leader.

Dothan police say the shooting grew out of an altercation involving several people. Investigators identified three teenage suspects who fled to Florida and, a couple of days later on a Thursday afternoon, Bay County law enforcement arrested them in Panama City in the vehicle reportedly used during the killing. The alleged triggerman was identified as 15-year-old Andre D. Winn; also arrested were 16-year-old Ashanti T. Williams, charged with murder and booked as an adult, and 16-year-old Kentarious McNeil, charged with accessory after the fact for allegedly providing false information. The suspects were held in Bay County awaiting extradition to Alabama.

Anyone who knew Kendarrius, witnessed the incident at Wiregrass Park, or has information about the case is asked to come forward.
