On the evening of April 30, 2017, 18-year-old Jarvis Demarcus Ford was fatally shot on 16th Avenue South in Phenix City, Alabama. An African American resident of that street and a former Central High School student, Ford was rushed to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia, but did not survive his wounds.
Described by family and friends as happy and outspoken, Ford was a father to a daughter, Kyleigh Gresham. His funeral was held May 6, 2017, where candles and tributes marked how deeply he was mourned by those who knew him.
The investigation resulted in the arrest and booking of 47-year-old Richard Long into the Russell County Jail in connection with the shooting. The circumstances and motive behind the killing were not disclosed.
If anyone knew Jarvis or has information about what happened that night on 16th Avenue South, please come forward.
