Marklenny Candelario, 23, was last seen in the Bronx, New York, on September 22, 2011. She had been staying at the Sugarhouse Motel in New Haven, Vermont, with her two young children after leaving New York because of domestic problems. On the day she vanished she and her two-year-old son were dropped at the JetBlue terminal at Burlington International Airport so she could fly to the Bronx and leave the child with his father. After doing so she told the father she planned to visit the Dominican Embassy about a passport issue; what happened next is unclear.

Her backpack was later found on a bus terminal platform in Massachusetts. A relative says they received contact from her indicating she was in New York and being held against her will. There are unconfirmed rumors she returned to the Dominican Republic, but Vermont still lists her as an endangered missing person.
