Christy Lynn Cook was 39 when she disappeared from McCalla, Alabama after leaving on a trip to Tennessee with her boyfriend on March 7, 2017. She was reported missing when she failed to arrive at her destination.
Several days later a homeowner in the Rock Mountain Lakes area returned after being away and found a woman’s body in his bedroom. Jefferson County detectives and the medical examiner identified the victim as Cook and ruled the death a homicide.
Investigators focused on Cook’s boyfriend, 40-year-old Anthony Gene McClellan of Carrolton, Alabama. He had been found disoriented on a highway in Etowah County the day after Cook was last seen; the truck they were using, towing a boat, was later found abandoned in a wooded area. After hospital treatment McClellan gave conflicting statements, including that they had broken into the Rock Mountain Lakes home and he accidentally shot her twice. He was charged with Capital Murder, with the complaint alleging the killing occurred during a first-degree burglary and held without bond.
If anyone knew Christy, her travel plans, or saw the truck or boat in early March 2017, please share what you know.
