Alex Dewayne Bedwell, 38, was shot and killed on the afternoon of February 5, 2017, in the parking lot of the Emory Woods Condominiums along the 2500 block of Veteran’s Memorial Parkway in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Officers and deputies responded to reports of gunfire just before 5 p.m.; Bedwell was found with multiple gunshot wounds and died shortly after being taken to DCH hospital.
Investigators treated the shooting as personal rather than random, saying Bedwell and the shooter knew one another and that the confrontation grew out of an ongoing argument tied to a woman. Authorities said the suspected shooter had not fled and was still at the scene when officers arrived. That person was identified as Dillon Michael Lee, 25, and he was taken into custody and charged with murder, with bond reported at $60,000 as the case moved into the courts.
The case later progressed through Alabama’s appellate system, where the Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the outcome and an application for rehearing was overruled; the Alabama Supreme Court denied a petition for certiorari in September 2021, leaving the lower-court result in place.
If anyone knew Bedwell or witnessed the February 5, 2017 confrontation at Emory Woods Condominiums, please come forward with information.
