Joseph Elmer Buddy Broughton was 74 and a longtime owner of Broughton’s Gas Station and Convenience store in the Crossroads area of Bay Minette, Alabama. On the evening of October 7, 2016, his wife found him unconscious at their home on County Road 138; medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene after he suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office opened a homicide investigation. By March 2017 the Sheriff’s Office had issued a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction, but no suspects have been publicly identified or arrested. The community mourned a man described as a friend to many while the person or persons responsible have not been publicly named.
If anyone knew Joseph Buddy Broughton or has information about that October night, please share what you know with investigators.
