Justin Marquise Prentice was 20 when he and his 65-year-old grandmother, Ruby Prentice, were shot dead in Tuscaloosa on August 11, 2016. Justin, remembered for his love of football, basketball and soccer, was described as a promising young man whose life was cut short.
Authorities identified 66-year-old Victor Neal Prentice, the grandfather and husband of the victims, as the suspect. After the shootings he barricaded himself in the family home and engaged in a seven-hour standoff with police before negotiators persuaded him to surrender. He was taken into custody and charged with capital murder and held without bond. Reports noted a history of domestic incidents at the residence, and no motive had been released.
Funeral services for Justin were held on August 20, 2016, at Oasis Baptist Church, and he was buried at Cedar Oak Memorial Park. If anyone knew Justin or has information about what led to this violence, please come forward.
