Charles Hugh Perkins, 77, a retired Florence Police Department officer who later worked as a detention officer, was shot and killed in the 300 block of Redbud Street in Florence, Alabama, on the afternoon of Friday, April 29, 2016. Emergency crews arrived around 4:00 p.m., but Perkins’ wound was fatal. His death shocked the local community and fellow officers who remembered his long public service.
The Florence Police Department opened an intensive investigation that evening and identified a person of interest; by that night a suspect, Alfonso Ramon Jarmon, 32, had been arrested and charged with Perkins’ murder. Authorities did not immediately release a motive. An obituary and notices of funeral services were later published.
