Late on the night of November 29, 2014, gunfire erupted on Wimberly Street in Greenville, Alabama. Calls reached police at about 11:20 p.m., and two wounded men were taken to a Montgomery hospital after the shooting. Kerry Smith, a 29-year-old Black male, was among those shot and later died at the hospital. The other victim, Michael Loveless, survived and was reported in critical condition immediately after the incident.
In the days after the shooting, investigators focused on a single name. Greenville Police said they believed Michael Delbridge shot Smith and Loveless outside a home on Wimberly Street. On December 3, 2014, Delbridge turned himself in and was taken into custody and held on a $100,000 bond. Public reports identify Delbridge as the person police said they believed responsible, but do not describe any later court outcomes.
If anyone knew Kerry Smith or has information about the shooting on Wimberly Street, please come forward with what you remember.
