On the evening of September 6, 2014, seven-year-old DeCorrin Johnson was playing outside at a birthday party in Greensboro, Alabama, when a dispute between two men escalated into gunfire. DeCorrin, described as funny, energetic, and respectful and a wide receiver for the Greensboro Raiders youth football team, was struck by a stray bullet and killed.
The argument reportedly began inside a residence and continued outdoors, where Chapal Williams and Lavoris Jackson opened fire on each other. Both men were arrested and charged with capital murder and attempted murder. Jackson’s attorney argued he acted in self-defense under Alabama’s Stand Your Ground law; the district attorney disagreed and the matter was referred to a grand jury.
Anyone who knew DeCorrin or witnessed events that night is asked to come forward with information.
