Demetrice Hines was 20 when he was killed in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 8, 2014, after a dispute at The Opp Nite Club in Opp, Alabama spilled into the parking lot. Gunfire erupted there, wounding several people; Hines was critically injured and taken to Mizell Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Four others were reported injured in the shooting.
Opp Police investigators identified and arrested 26-year-old Catoris Gernale Fannin of Enterprise. Fannin was charged with one count of murder and four counts of first-degree assault and was held in the Covington County Jail; court records show he pleaded guilty to the charges.
There is an unrelated case involving a different man named Demetrice Hines in another state who pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and illegal possession of a firearm in a separate fatal confrontation; that is not the same incident as the Opp nightclub shooting.
If anyone witnessed the parking lot shooting or has additional information about events that night, please share what is known.
