On January 9, 2014, 22-year-old Willie Harris Cole Jr., a Black man originally from Tuskegee, was shot in the face with a shotgun and killed at a residence on Valley View Drive in Albertville, Alabama. Authorities believed the killing was tied to a robbery.
Investigators identified four people from Gadsden — Shontavious Williams, JaMichael Kinchen, Derunteze Parker, and Maya Morris — who were arrested and charged with capital murder. A Marshall County judge later found enough evidence to send the case to a grand jury.
Cole’s mother, Debbie Coleman, described her son as her only child and said she could not understand taking a life over money. If anyone knew Willie, his movements that winter, or has information about what happened on Valley View Drive that night, please share what you know.
