Sergeant Daniel V. Davis, a 30-year-old investigator with the Phenix City Police Department, died on November 10, 2013. He was shot in the leg when a service firearm accidentally discharged while he was removing weapons from his patrol car in the parking lot of his apartment complex on Summerville Road. The round severed a major artery and he bled to death before help could arrive.
Davis, an eight-year veteran of the department and a father to a daughter and a son, was discovered later by his girlfriend, who also worked for the Phenix City Police Department and called for help. The investigation concluded the wound was accidental and self-inflicted; there were no suspects or arrests.
If anyone knew Sergeant Davis, his routines, or witnessed activity at the Summerville Road apartments that night, please share what might help clarify the circumstances.
