Officer Charles Rafael Alcuri was 34 and a 13-year veteran of the Ozark Police Department when he and a colleague responded to a domestic disturbance in the early morning hours of December 19, 1987. Officer Alcuri and 57-year-old John Drew Seifert arrived at a duplex to investigate and were met with gunfire from 25-year-old Randy Crittenden, who had barricaded himself inside. Both officers were shot and killed on arrival. A 19-year-old neighbor, Eddie James Draught, had been shot and wounded by Crittenden before the officers arrived.

State troopers, Alabama Army National Guard troops, and Ozark police later surrounded the residence and maintained a standoff for several hours. At 12:45 p.m. officials entered the duplex and found Crittenden dead from a self-inflicted wound using Officer Seifert’s service weapon. The motive for the original domestic disturbance and the subsequent shootings was not fully clarified. Officer Alcuri was survived by his wife and children.

Does anyone have information about the events that led up to the domestic disturbance or knew Officer Alcuri and his family?
