On March 23, 2024, 64-year-old Jamey Holweger was shot and killed inside a residence at 502 West Eighth Street in Larimore, North Dakota. A woman who fled the home called 911 saying a man had opened fire on her and Holweger, prompting deputies and state troopers already in town to establish a perimeter and call in regional SWAT and negotiators.
The suspect, 43-year-old Troy Larson, a relative of Holweger, stayed inside the house for hours and refused to respond to officers. After SWAT breached a window, Larson fired multiple rounds at an armored vehicle. Tactical officers deployed an irritant; when Larson later emerged in a bathrobe and made a movement toward his pocket, a sheriff’s sergeant shot him in the back. Larson was treated and transported to a hospital; Holweger was pronounced dead inside the home.
Larson was charged with murder, attempted murder, and reckless endangerment. A mental competency evaluation played a central role in subsequent court proceedings. Does anyone have information about Holweger’s last known activities or the neighborhood around West Eighth Street?
