Dominick Stephens, 29, was shot and killed on January 12, 2020, in Minot, North Dakota. Stephens, a Black/African American man, was driving a white Chevrolet Impala near the Minot State University Dome when he was struck twice in the back by gunfire. He lost control of the car, collided with a boulder, and was found slumped over the wheel; he was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. A 28-year-old male passenger, Patrick Bost, was uninjured but appeared to have been in a fight earlier that morning.
Investigators linked the shooting to an earlier altercation at the Expressway Suites hotel, where Bost reportedly fought with a man identified as Donald Cooper Jr. Witness accounts and the investigation describe a silver Ford Escape allegedly driven by a man named Lee with Cooper and another man named Dennis as passengers. Police believe Cooper and Dennis fired at Stephens’ vehicle; after the shooting Lee drove to a trailer court where Cooper and Dennis exited with the firearms.
Sheridan Charlene Simms, 30, was later arrested in Las Vegas on charges of hindering law enforcement and child neglect, accused of assisting Cooper Jr. in fleeing the state and abandoning her four children. Authorities said tips and home surveillance footage helped the probe and urged anyone with information to come forward.
If anyone knew Dominick Stephens or saw the white Impala or a silver Ford Escape in the area that morning, please share what was seen.
