Gary Dale Hodges, 71, of the Thayne area, was found dead on November 4, 2019, during a welfare check at a home on Alta Drive in Star Valley Ranch. Deputies entered after receiving a call from someone who had not heard from the couple for some time and discovered Hodges and his wife, Memorie Jean Hodges, deceased with what investigators described as apparent gunshot wounds. A firearm was recovered near the bodies.

Investigators treated the scene as a suspected murder-suicide rather than the result of an attack by an outside person, and authorities said they did not believe anyone else was involved. Local investigators received assistance from the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation while the scene was processed. No outside suspect has been identified and no arrests or charges related to Hodges’ death are described in the reporting.
