Rob Hoover was 38 and lived in Lennox, South Dakota. His life ended in violence on the morning of September 26, 2017, when emergency crews found three family members dead from gunshot wounds inside a home on the 400 block of South Main Street: one adult man, one adult woman, and a young boy.

Investigators and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reported evidence pointing strongly toward a murder-suicide. A handgun was recovered at the scene, and authorities identified the suspected shooter as Stephanie Hoover, who was found dead in the home. The boy killed in the home was identified as Zachary Hoover; officials said the victims were related. Because the only named suspect died at the scene, there were no arrests.

Obituary notices later confirmed Rob Hoover’s death on that date, and the incident prompted a brief school lockdown in Lennox as the community absorbed the shock. What drove this family to such an outcome remains unclear.

If anyone knew Rob, Stephanie, or Zachary Hoover or has information about what led up to September 26, 2017, please come forward.
