Amon Jamiel, 60, was a well-known businessman in Warren, Rhode Island, whose life unraveled in early 1978 after thefts at his General Supply Co. In January 1978 over $4,000 was taken from a hiding place in the store, and on March 13 the shop suffered a deliberately set fire. Jamiel began moving salvaged items to a new location and attended a clam boil on March 19. That evening his wife and son returned to 33 Miller Street and found him dead in an upstairs shower, shot multiple times in the head and abdomen. The apparent murder weapon was a .32-caliber revolver that had been taken from the store and was never recovered.
The investigation was hampered from the outset when the crime scene was not properly secured and family members gathered in the house. Grand jury hearings followed but produced no arrests; at one point Jamiel’s youngest son, Jonathan, was publicly identified as a suspect but was not indicted. The killing remains unsolved and has fractured the family over the years. Did anyone in Warren have information about the thefts or who might have had access to that revolver?
