On the evening of May 1, 1990, 24-year-old Gregory Smart was found shot in the head at the couple’s condominium in Derry, New Hampshire. His wife, 22-year-old Pamela Smart, reported returning home to find the residence ransacked and her husband dead; the scene was later described as staged to look like a burglary.
Investigators uncovered that Pamela Smart had been involved in an affair with a 15-year-old student, William Billy Flynn. Prosecutors say that relationship provided the motive: Pamela allegedly pressured Flynn to kill her husband, threatening to end the relationship if he refused. Flynn and Patrick Pete Randall are accused of entering the condo, with Randall holding Gregory at knifepoint while Flynn fired the fatal shot. Vance J.R. Lattime Jr. is said to have supplied the .38 caliber pistol and Raymond Fowler to have driven the getaway vehicle.
A friend of the teenagers went to police, leading to recovery of the gun and cooperation from the accomplices. On August 1, 1990, Pamela Smart and the four teenage suspects were arrested on charges including first-degree murder-related counts. Is there anyone who knew the Smarts or those teenagers who can add context to what led up to this killing?
