Jesus Santos was 22 and lived in Nashua, New Hampshire, when he was fatally shot on the night of December 30, 1987. The killing was one part of a two-city shooting rampage that began in Nashua and extended into nearby Londonderry. Witnesses and early police briefings described a methodical attack in which each victim was shot once and the sequence of shootings unfolded over roughly two hours.
Police identified the shooter as 38-year-old Rafael Rodriguez of Nashua. After a series of attacks that left three men dead and two others wounded, officers confronted Rodriguez at a gasoline station; police said he fired twice at an officer and was then shot and killed at the scene. Detectives did not announce a clear motive and noted they were examining possible drug connections tied to the suspect’s history, although no drugs were found on Rodriguez or in the victims’ apartments. The case effectively ended with the shooter’s death, leaving unanswered questions about why the spree began.
