A holiday visit to the George Nourse Gun Range south of Nampa ended in tragedy when 26-year-old Evan Michael Chase was fatally wounded on the evening of July 5, 2024. Witnesses say a rifle discharged around 5:00 p.m. while another man was unloading it; the round struck Chase in the abdomen. Emergency crews and deputies from the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office performed life-saving efforts, but Chase was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s office investigated and concluded the rifle’s discharge was accidental. Authorities have announced no arrests and no charges will be filed. The community response and the family’s loss are described as profound.
If anyone was at the George Nourse Gun Range that evening or has information about the events that led to the shooting, please come forward.
