Tyler S. Liles was 24 when he was shot and killed on the evening of October 20, 2018, in Post Falls, Idaho. Deputies from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a South Gallatin Road residence around 6:45 p.m. to find Liles on the ground with a gunshot wound. Life-saving attempts by deputies and Kootenai Fire and Rescue personnel were unsuccessful and Liles was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 41-year-old man, William C. Carlson, was at the scene and was identified as the shooter. Carlson was detained by deputies and booked into the Kootenai County Jail on a charge of involuntary manslaughter while the investigation continued. The Sheriff’s Office described the incident as isolated and said no further danger to the public existed.
