Richard E. Baumgartner was 22 when he was found with a fatal gunshot wound in a vehicle in a downtown Coeur d’Alene parking lot in the early morning hours of December 13, 2015. First responders took him to a local hospital, where he died. The Coeur d’Alene Police Department opened a homicide investigation and described the death as suspicious.

Investigators learned an altercation may have occurred at a local sports bar shortly before Baumgartner was found. A business owner reported hearing gunshots after seeing a fight involving three men. In the weeks that followed, no arrests were announced and the family grew frustrated; they publicly said those who were with Richard that night were not being forthcoming and hired a private investigator. The family’s uncle, Mark Mossuto, said the family believes Richard was murdered.

If anyone was in downtown Coeur d’Alene on the night of December 12–13, 2015 and saw or heard anything that could help, please come forward with information.
