On the night of March 8, 2015, 26-year-old Jose Cruz Corona was found dead beside the curb in the 400 block of 1st Street North in Nampa, Idaho, after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Officers arrived at about 11:00 p.m.; Corona was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family described him as a shy, devoted family man who shared a young daughter with his girlfriend of three years. The Nampa Police Department opened a homicide investigation and identified two women as persons of interest: 21-year-old Ashley Zuniga of Nampa and 20-year-old Amber Garcia of Caldwell. Investigators noted Zuniga was a registered gang member but said it was unclear whether the killing was gang-related. Both women were wanted on outstanding felony probation-violation warrants and were arrested on those warrants in Caldwell on March 20, 2015; police intended to question them about the homicide, but no details of those interviews have been released.
No public announcements about charges or convictions directly tied to the shooting have been made. If anyone knew Jose, saw activity in the 400 block of 1st Street North that night, or has information about the case, please come forward.
