Jonathan Samuel was 13 when he was killed at an emergency housing unit in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on March 24, 2014. Jonathan, who had Down syndrome and autism, was attacked while hiding under his bed. Their father, 46-year-old Eldon Samuel Jr., was also shot multiple times by Eldon III after an initial shooting with a .45-caliber pistol.
After the killings Eldon III called police and confessed, reportedly saying he had contemplated the murders for months and blaming Jonathan’s autism for family problems. At trial the defense argued Eldon III had been abused by his father, who was described as a drug addict and paranoid about a zombie apocalypse. The jury convicted Eldon III of first-degree murder for Jonathan’s death and second-degree murder for his father’s death; he received a combined 20-year sentence.
Does anyone have information about the family or the housing unit that could shed light on what led to this tragedy?
