Valerie Tieman was 34 when she disappeared from Fairfield, Maine, in late summer 2016. Her parents, who lived out of state, reported her missing on September 9, 2016, after family members could not locate her. Initial statements by her husband, Army veteran Luc Tieman, to police changed over time: he first said Valerie vanished from their truck after a Walmart run on August 30, then later claimed she overdosed on heroin and that he buried her in panic.
On September 20, 2016, investigators found Valerie’s body in a shallow grave in woods behind Luc Tieman’s parents’ home, where the couple had been living. The autopsy showed two gunshot wounds, to the head and neck; toxicology detected some painkillers but not a fatal overdose. Buried with her were a wedding band, a Mason jar with flowers, a bag of potato chips, a bottle of Gucci Guilty cologne, and a handwritten note signed with a nickname Luc said his wife used for him. The case revealed Luc had been having an affair and that messages about the infidelity had been sent to Valerie.
A jury found Luc Tieman guilty of murder and he received a 55-year prison sentence. If anyone knew Valerie, her relationships, or has information about her last days, please come forward.
