Boothbay Harbor’s Fourth of July weekend in 2015 ended in tragedy when 75-year-old Carol Pratt Jorgensen was found dead in her Lakeside Drive home after a welfare check. Carol died of a gunshot wound to the head. Her 71-year-old husband, Svend Jorgensen, and their 40-year-old son, Eric Jorgensen, were also found dead; Maine State Police determined Svend killed Carol and Eric and then took his own life in the basement, with the deaths likely occurring around July 1 or 2.
Friends and neighbors remembered Carol as outgoing and active: a former airline employee, a saxophone player in the community band, a tennis and bridge player, and the only child of the longtime owners of Pratt’s Jewelry and Gift Store. Svend, a retired naval architect, left a handwritten note addressing financial and real estate matters but offering no explanation for the killings.
Does anyone have information about the Jorgensens’ lives in Boothbay Harbor or recollections from that summer that could shed light on what happened?
