On the evening of May 12, 2015, David A. Grant, 61, was found dead in the front yard of his mobile home on Packard Road in Parkman, Maine. The State Medical Examiner determined his cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds. The scene, described as a rural lot with abandoned vehicles and children’s toys, prompted an overnight investigation by the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office and state police detectives.
A second man, identified as 38-year-old Zachery Grant, David’s son, was found seriously injured and was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face. He was later transferred to Acadia Hospital in Bangor. After his release from the hospital, Zachery was arrested and charged with his father’s murder and was arraigned wearing a medical helmet. At a later plea hearing he said he had been drunk and off his medication and had no memory of the shooting. Prosecutors called parts of the case sensitive and sought to impound police affidavits, and Zachery was held without bail.
Are there readers who remember Parkman or the Grants and can share anything that might help clarify what happened that night?
