Jody Carol Buzzell, 52, was found shot and killed at her home on West Fryeburg Road in Fryeburg, Maine. The body was discovered in a first-floor room in the early morning of January 27 after relatives alerted police and a prolonged response in freezing temperatures, during which the Maine State Police tactical team entered the residence. Investigators concluded she had been killed on the afternoon of January 26 by her husband, 52-year-old Mark Buzzell.

Mark Buzzell’s body was located about four hours after Jody’s in a vacant residence next door belonging to a family member. Authorities determined he had taken his own life and said he left a note and had told family members he had killed his wife. Investigators reported that the deaths were being treated as a domestic violence murder-suicide; Route 113 was closed for about 12 hours during the search.

Jody was remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother, and massage therapist who graduated from Fryeburg Academy and the University of Southern Maine and was inducted into the massage therapy Hall of Fame in 2010. The community held a candlelight vigil and walk from Fryeburg Academy to Bradley Park, many participants wearing purple for domestic violence awareness, to honor her and support her four children.

If anyone knew Jody or has information about the events of January 26, please come forward.
