Nicholas Nick Dorrington, a 32-year-old White man, was found dead at his parents’ home on Durham Road in Freeport, Maine on June 25, 2013. He had recently moved back in with his parents while going through a divorce and was discovered deceased in his bed.

Authorities identified Nicholas’s father, 64-year-old John Dorrington, as the person responsible. Investigators reported John shot his son and then took his own life. A .22-caliber handgun was recovered at the scene. Nicholas’s mother, Joyce, found both men when she returned home after John failed to show up for work and did not answer his phone.

Police said the motive remained unclear; Nicholas’s recent return home due to the pending divorce was noted but investigators had not determined what led to the violence.
