Mario Sonny Litterio, 70, was killed in Prentiss, Maine on November 8, 2007, by a man described as his best friend. Litterio reportedly handed his .38-caliber revolver to Dumas while stepping aside to relieve himself; Dumas then shot Litterio multiple times with that revolver and finished him with a .50-caliber muzzleloading rifle.

Dumas was arrested and charged with murder. At trial his defense argued he was in cocaine-induced psychosis and sought a manslaughter verdict; prosecutors said his actions showed goal-oriented behavior. The jury returned a guilty verdict for intentional and knowing murder. The motive for the killing, and why a long-standing friendship ended in such violence, remains painful and unclear.

If anyone knew Mario, his movements that day, or the friendship between him and Joseph Dumas, please share what is known.
