Lee Holbrook Nason, 40, was fatally shot in Yarmouth, Maine, on September 3, 2005. Authorities determined her 58-year-old husband, Robert W. Nason, then died by suicide and classified the incident as a domestic murder-suicide; no arrests were made. That year more than half of Maine’s 19 homicides were linked to domestic violence.

Born March 24, 1965, in Mount Kisco, New York, Lee graduated from Millbrook School and earned a degree in early childhood education from Curry College. She taught in the Portland Public Schools before founding The Holbrook Center, a preschool and daycare in Freeport. An avid equestrian, she opened Royal River Farm in Yarmouth in 1992 for boarding and training. Friends remembered her generous spirit, easy laugh, and kindness to children and animals.

Anyone who knew Lee or has information about her life in Yarmouth or at Royal River Farm is asked to come forward.
