Brian Vines, 23, was found dead inside a remote cabin in Parkman, Maine on October 16, 2003. An active-duty soldier stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Vines had traveled to Maine to visit a former Army colleague, Arthur Belanger Jr. An investigation determined Vines was killed on October 6, 2003, having been shot four times from behind with wounds to his head, neck, and arm.

Authorities arrested 21-year-old Arthur Belanger Jr. and 20-year-old Chad Slimm of Madison, Maine on October 18, 2003; Belanger confessed to shooting Vines and Slimm admitted assisting. Both were held at the Piscataquis County Jail in Dover-Foxcroft and did not enter pleas at their initial court appearance. In March 2004, Slimm pleaded guilty to murder.

Anyone who knew Brian, his movements in early October 2003, or the relationship between him and Arthur Belanger Jr. or Chad Slimm is asked to come forward with information.
