Ethel Springer, 51, was shot and killed on July 13, 1999, at Mercer town hall in Maine. The killing followed a long, troubled relationship: the couple had married, divorced, and remarried in 1985, and were reportedly planning another divorce at the time.

After fatally shooting Ethel, her 59-year-old husband, Bryan Springer, returned home, set the house on fire, and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, making the incident a murder-suicide. There were no arrests because the perpetrator also died.

If anyone knew the Springers, their relationship, or saw anything in Mercer around July 13, 1999, that might shed light on what led to this tragedy, please share what’s known.
