Kwantae Jamar Tator Hovington, a 28-year-old Black man from Seaford, Delaware, was killed on Saturday, January 23, 2021, inside the Mobile Gardens community. Delaware State Police responded about 6:40 a.m. to Park Circle for a reported shooting and found Hovington with a fatal gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Family members at a later vigil said he may have been inside his home with his infant daughter, Khari Jhene’ Hovington, and the child’s mother, Sha’Mya Elizabeth Edwards, when the shooting occurred, and relatives suggested robbery as a possible motive though police did not confirm one while the investigation was active.

Hovington’s obituary and remembrances describe him as family-oriented and hardworking, a devoted father who had worked at several local businesses and recently started Miscellaneous Men Lawn Care; he was a 2010 graduate and two-sport athlete in the Cape Henlopen community. Delaware State Police publicly identified him as the victim on January 25, 2021, and the case remained an active homicide investigation; no suspect, arrest, charge or conviction had been reported.
