John W. Groff, a 40-year-old White man from Harrington, Delaware, was found lying in the roadway on Killens Pond Road between Sandbox Road and Bloomfield Road in the early morning darkness of April 24, 2020. A passerby spotted him at about 1:10 a.m.; troopers transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Authorities later confirmed he had been shot and the Delaware State Police ruled the case a homicide.
Reports place his body near his vehicle on that quiet back road and describe investigators marking evidence in the lane where he fell. Detectives have been retracing his final movements to learn why he was on that rural stretch before dawn. As of the latest public bulletin, no arrests or suspects have been publicly identified and the Homicide Unit continues to seek tips, including through Delaware Crime Stoppers.
Who was driving that corridor before dawn or has information about Groff’s final movements?
