Kalani Zalopany was 17 when he was shot and killed at a home in the 1000 block of West 31st Avenue in Bellevue, Nebraska, on October 12, 2020. Bellevue Police found him with a gunshot wound just after noon; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Kalani was a senior at Bellevue East High School, standing 6 feet 5 inches, and had grown up in Honolulu before moving to Nebraska at about age 12.
Authorities arrested two males the day after the shooting: 18-year-old Davion Snider and an unidentified 16-year-old, both charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, and robbery. A warrant was issued for 21-year-old Rashaun Faison of Council Bluffs; he surrendered to police on October 17, 2020. A funeral mass for Kalani was held October 20, 2020, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Omaha.
Kalani’s family and friends remember him as a generous, humorous, and fiercely protective young man and an avid basketball player who loved the Chicago Bulls. If anyone knew Kalani or has information about what happened on October 12, please come forward.
