On the morning of Saturday, March 23, 2019, deputies responded to a 911 call from a home at 100 Otoe Street in Douglas, Nebraska. Inside the residence they found Randal Randy Grimes, 56, and Annette Grimes, 51, both dead of apparent gunshot wounds; authorities began treating the scene as a double homicide. The call, about 5:45 a.m., reportedly included sounds of a struggle and a female voice pleading for help.

Investigators identified 36-year-old Brindar H. Jangir as a person of interest and later charged him with first-degree murder in Otoe County. The victims were described as having been specifically targeted; Jangir was reported to be the ex-boyfriend of the Grimeses’ daughter, who had obtained a protection order naming him and said he had threatened to kill her and her parents if she ended the relationship. An affidavit alleged the shotgun used in the killings had been stolen from a Lincoln home.
