David Liebler, 67, was remembered by neighbors in Sun City, Arizona as a friendly, proud father who enjoyed golfing. On the morning of June 17, 2021, he was driving his pickup on Loop 101 near Thunderbird Road, a little over a mile from home, when a witness reported a white SUV pulling up alongside his truck and a “pop” being heard. Liebler’s vehicle then veered off the freeway and came to rest in an adjacent canal; he was later found dead inside his truck from a gunshot wound to the neck.

The killing was part of a 90-minute shooting spree across the West Valley that produced at least eight separate crime scenes in Glendale, Peoria, and Surprise. Four people were shot and nine others suffered injuries from shrapnel, broken glass, or crashes. A white Volkswagen SUV and an AR-15 rifle were linked to the attacks, and 19-year-old Ashin Scott Tricarico was arrested and held on one-million-dollar bond.

A Maricopa County grand jury indicted Tricarico on 31 felony counts, including first-degree murder in Liebler’s death and multiple counts of aggravated assault, drive-by shooting, and endangerment. The litigation was still pending as of June 2021. Does anyone have information about Liebler’s last movements that morning or about witnesses who saw the SUV on Loop 101?
