Sibylle Claus-Prange, 27, vanished from Grand Canyon Village, Arizona, on May 2, 1991, while traveling in the United States with her husband and longtime partner, Eberhard Prange. The couple had arrived from Germany on April 15, were married in Las Vegas on April 25, and reached the Grand Canyon in early May. Sibylle is described as a White woman about 5 feet 5 inches tall, 115 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Before disappearing the pair used the Valley National Bank at Grand Canyon to send several thousand dollars to their parents in Germany and left a letter saying they planned to hike into the canyon and would not return, with wording suggesting their families might be close to them somewhere within the canyon. Sibylle was reported to be suffering from terminal leukemia at the time. An extensive search of Bright Angel and Kaibab trails reportedly found no sign of the couple, and the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office lists Sibylle as missing. A blue door plaque with the names Sibylle and Eberhard also went missing from their German home around the same time and may have been taken with them.
Did anyone in the Grand Canyon Village area or with knowledge of the Bright Angel or Kaibab trails in May 1991 see Sibylle or Eberhard, or recognize the door plaque detail?
