On July 14, 2019, 31-year-old Elshaymaa Elmesilhy was shot in a Chandler, Arizona home near Chandler Boulevard and Price Road and later died at a hospital. Responding officers were called after a frantic 911 report; family members and the victim’s sister, who was staying in the house with the couple’s two young children, were present at the scene.
Elshaymaa’s husband, 37-year-old Mustafa Hussein, told police he had just returned from work and was unloading his 9mm handgun when it discharged, striking his wife in the chest. He said he believed he had removed the magazine, cycled the slide, ejected a cartridge onto the bed, and then pointed the gun toward a window behind Elshaymaa before pulling the trigger. Family members say Hussein later picked up the firearm to demonstrate and a second round went into the bedroom floor; Hussein and his sister-in-law placed the 911 call.
Investigators treated the shooting as more than an accident and arrested Hussein; he was booked on one count of second-degree murder after authorities concluded that pointing the gun at his wife and pulling the trigger was a reckless act.
If anyone knew Elshaymaa, the household, or was in that neighborhood the morning of July 14, 2019, please share what you know.
