Karl Artur Anderson was 76 when he was last seen in Upsala, Ontario, on September 3, 1974. Records note he may have set out for medical treatment and investigators believed he might have travelled by train toward either Sioux Lookout or Thunder Bay, but there is no confirmation he boarded a train or reached either community or a hospital.

His description is detailed: about 5 feet 10 inches, 161 pounds, heavy build, ruddy complexion, blue eyes, white balding hair, false teeth, reading glasses, and a left-leg deformity that caused a limp. He spoke with a Swedish accent and was associated with a grey felt hat, red jacket, blue suit pants, and black Oxford-style shoes.

The surviving record does not establish whether Anderson had arranged care, suffered an accident, encountered foul play, became lost, or experienced a medical emergency. The Thunder Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is listed as the agency handling the case.

Did anyone in Upsala or along the Sioux Lookout–Thunder Bay rail corridor remember seeing an elderly man fitting this description in early September 1974?
