I've been thinking a lot about the types of boats people use on these long canoe trips, especially Richard Dale Beaudoin's choice. From what I've read, his 14-foot, red or orange fiberglass freight canoe was quite unique for the coastal waters he was navigating. They’re designed to carry heavy loads, which makes me wonder if he had additional equipment or supplies with him that required more space. Could the square stern design have influenced how it handled in the water, especially in rougher conditions during winter? Many enthusiasts swear by canoes with pointed ends for better maneuverability, but Richard must have seen some advantage in his choice. Despite being an experienced outdoorsman, could equipment like this have played a part in him going missing, perhaps by impacting his control in bad weather? Just curious if any other canoe aficionados have insights or experiences to share about this kind of setup.
