Leona Mae Brule was 18 when she disappeared after a period of moving between Fort Providence and Edmonton. A member of the Le'Got She Deh from Fort Providence, she worked as a live-in nanny there and visited a boyfriend in Edmonton. Family contact last occurred in March 1989; when a year passed without word her mother reported her missing in 1989. Reports conflict on where she was last seen: some place her last sighting in Yellowknife in fall or winter 1988, while RCMP records note Fort Providence.

Family recall she attended a party in Fort Providence and left with several people, after which she was not seen again. She was described as 4 feet 6 inches, about 106 pounds, with brown eyes, curly black hair, a burn on her left hand, a circular mark on her upper right cheek, and sometimes used the alias Jodie Summers. The RCMP considers the disappearance suspicious; leads over the years included unconfirmed sightings in Edmonton and Florida and a woman in Fort McPherson who was later ruled not to be her. Her health card and social insurance number have not been used and her family has submitted DNA.

Does anyone have information about Leona’s whereabouts, movements in 1988–89, or the party in Fort Providence?
