Does anyone have more information about the racing canoes used in the late 70s around northern Manitoba? I've been reading about Reuben Matthew Buck's disappearance, and it seems odd to me that they would set out in such harsh weather. I’m wondering if the type of canoe they used might’ve been specifically designed for stability in competitive settings but maybe not as suitable for rough weather. Could this have been a factor in what happened to them? Any insight on this, or knowledge about racing canoes from that period would be appreciated. Understanding more about the equipment might shed some light on the decisions made that day.
