On the morning of August 18, 2015, the bodies of 18-year-old Jesse Romero and 17-year-old Sophia Gibbs were found near Salome Highway and 411th Avenue in the Tonopah desert. A passerby spotted Sophia’s body at about 5:45 a.m. and alerted the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office; deputies processing the area then located Jesse nearby. Both teens had been fatally shot, and officials described the incident as a double homicide.

Reports say Jesse and Sophia were in a relationship and were last seen with two acquaintances; no further details about those individuals have been released. Authorities have not named suspects or announced arrests, the motive remains unknown, and the investigation has since grown cold. A reward is being offered for tips that lead to an arrest and indictment.

If anyone knew Jesse or Sophia, saw them in Tonopah on August 17–18, 2015, or has information about the two acquaintances they were last seen with, please come forward.
