On a Sunday afternoon in the Cobblestone Farms neighborhood of Maricopa, Arizona, officers responded to multiple 911 hang-up calls and found 32-year-old Jonathan Guillory outside his home after neighbors reported him wandering, punching his garage door, and briefly revealing what appeared to be a gun in his waistband. The encounter escalated when officers said Guillory displayed a handgun and pointed it at them; they opened fire. He was taken to Chandler Regional Hospital and died on January 18, 2015.

Guillory was a husband and father of two young sons and a military veteran who had completed three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. His family said he suffered from severe post-traumatic stress disorder and had been calling crisis centers, suicide hotlines, and VA counseling services daily the week before his death, seeking help they say never came. The Maricopa Police Department identified Sergeant Leonard Perez and Officer Joshua Hawksworth as the officers who fired; both were placed on paid administrative leave pending an Arizona Department of Public Safety investigation. His wife later filed a wrongful death lawsuit.

Does anyone in Maricopa remember that day or have information about Guillory’s calls for help leading up to January 18, 2015?
