Stephanie Cyr was 18 and living in Saint-Basile, New Brunswick, when she was last seen at her family’s home on the evening of June 5, 1998. She is described as six feet tall with reddish-brown hair and blue-green eyes; the last known outfit was a black velvet skirt with white stripes, high-heeled black velvet sandals, and a green, orange and yellow plaid jacket. Her disappearance was reported to the Edmundston Police Force after she failed to return home and missed work the next morning.
Early leads included unconfirmed sightings in Caribou, Maine, and a later tip from Stephanie’s mother, Lorraine Cyr, who thought she saw her daughter in a television report about prostitution in Montreal. Lorraine also reported receiving silent phone calls she has held onto as a possible sign Stephanie was alive but unable to contact family. Police have periodically reissued appeals for information and distributed age-progressed images on anniversaries of her disappearance.
The case remains open with the Edmundston Police Force and family hope continues. If anyone knew Stephanie, saw her in the days after June 5, 1998, or has information about the reported sightings in Maine or Montreal, please come forward.
